A lawsuit has been filed against tech giant Nvidia after a senior staff member mistakenly displayed stolen data during a video call with his former employer. The former employer, car technology firm Valeo, claims the staff member stole the source code for their parking and driving assistance software.
The lawsuit alleges that Nvidia benefitted financially from the stolen trade secrets and saved millions of dollars in development costs by using the stolen code to develop a competing product. Moreover, the staff member was convicted by German authorities for unlawfully holding the stolen data, adding to the legal complexities of the case.
Valeo is seeking significant damages and an injunction prohibiting Nvidia from using their stolen code. Nvidia has stated that it was unaware of the staff member's actions and has cooperated fully with the investigation. The lawsuit has been filed in a California court, where Nvidia is headquartered.
